Operator license renewal requirements

The New Jersey Water Supply Administration has a wealth of information for operator licensing requirements.

Facts for Licensees about obtaining Training Contact Hours (TCHs) for Operator License Renewal:

Beginning 10/01/2000, Class 3 & 4 licensees need 36 TCHs for operator license renewal by 10/01/2003

Beginning 10/01/2002, Class 1 & 2 licensees need 18 TCHs for operator license renewal by 10/01/2003

TCHs are only applied toward license renewal for courses taken within each designated 3-year training tracking period. (I.e. 10/2000-09/2003, 10/2003-09/2006, 10/2006-09/2009, etc.)

All training programs and courses approved by the Water & Wastewater Advisory Committee on Operator Training (WWAC) are acceptable.

All International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) approved courses are acceptable. (1 CEU = 10 TCHs)

Passing a NJ water or wastewater licensing upgrade exam during the 3-year training tracking period will merit 7 TCHs within the appropriate license category. (I.e. Class 2 licensee sits for and passes the Class 3 exam will receive 7 TCHs toward their Class 2 TCH requirement.)

Any Red Cross approved First Aid or CPR course is acceptable for up to 3 TCHs in and 3-year training tracking period.

No more than 1/3 of required TCHs can be for safety training.

College credit that is directly relevant to the operation, maintenance and management of a water and/or wastewater system and addresses influences on water quality, public health or environmental protection is accepted as 15 TCHs for each credit hour.

Instructors of TCH accredited training shall not receive TCHs for training.

No credit shall be given for any courses repeated within the 3-year training tracking period.

Licensee are responsible for retaining all certificates and/or other documentation of course completion obtained during the 3-year training tracking period.
