An Introduction to the North Jersey Water Conference

The North Jersey Water Conference (N.J.W.C.) is an organization, which represents the waterworks industry in the northern section of New Jersey. With approximately 150 members representing large and small municipal water systems, private water purveyors, vendors, consultants and others related to the water industry.  Membership extends primarily throughout the northern counties of New Jersey, however, membership does exceed these boundaries.  Vendors, purveyors and consultants who attend our meetings experience an atmosphere which fosters social and business relationships.

There are three forms of membership available to members; these are:

full, partial and corporate.

Full membership allows for annual membership and monthly meeting attendance.  Partial membership requires an additional fee at each meeting attended. A Corporate membership allows for full attendance at all meetings with the option to rotate personnel representing the firm or system.  Membership renewal begins each year in May.

N.J.W.C. holds ten membership meetings during the year, starting in September.  Most of the regular meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month.  The locations of these meetings vary each month to different facilities in Morris, Essex, Bergen and Passaic counties.  Each meeting includes a social hour, dinner, N.J.W.C. business and a technical presentation associated with the water industry.  There are several special events each year; these include Vendors’ Night (October), the Superintendents Holiday Party (December), the Harold Florence Charity Golf Classic (May) and the N.J.W.C. Annual Picnic (June).  The highlights of these events include:

Vendors’ Night - This “trade show” style event affords vendors and consultants the opportunity to display their materials and/or services in exhibit area fashion.  This event attracts a total of 175 to 200 people each year.  Purveyors come seeking information on the newest equipment, supplies and services from more than 50 vendor displays.  In upcoming years, this event will also include technical seminars with Technical Contact Hours (TCH) required for all licensed operators In New Jersey.

Holiday Party - This meeting is an enjoyable and festive social event for members, spouses and invited guests.  It is a time to exchange good wishes for the holiday season and the New Year.  Entertainment is enjoyed after a lavish buffet.

H.V. Florence Charity Golf Classic - Each year, the N.J.W.C. remembers one of its former, more tenacious supporters and members, Harold V. Florence.  The Charity Golf Classic raises money for charity through the purchase of signs that are placed at the 36 tees and greens around the Farmstead Golf Course in Sussex, New Jersey. Signs may be purchased on behalf of any Company, Corporation or individual.  An awards dinner concludes the day’s play.  Last year’s event raised funds for selected charities and for the N.J.W.C. Scholarship Program.

Annual Picnic - Held in a park setting, the picnic is the finale to the N.J.W.C. year.  Members and invited guests partake in a full day of activities including a wide variety of foods and drinks enjoyed throughout the day as well as the annual Vendors vs. Purveyors softball game.

The N.J.W.C., in conjunction with the New Jersey Water Association, will co-host several educational seminars each year to provide “hands on” technical training to water utility personnel.  These seminars address the State regulatory requirements necessary for licensed water and wastewater operators to maintain their license status by means of TCH credits.  The seminars will be open to the personnel of the waterworks industry.

The organization also produces a yearly “Ad-Journal/Membership listing“. This reference guide contains N.J.W.C. information, with full listing of all members’ telephone, address, fax and e-mail information (if available), a schedule of events, by-laws, scholarship applications and advertisements.  This publication provides an excellent forum to keep in touch with fellow professionals.  Vendors who support the industry can advertise their company’s services and products.   A new Journal is published each year and available for distribution at Vendor’s night.
